Residential Extension, London SW14

The brief was to create a family room at the back of a 3 storey Victorian house with maximum connection to the garden but without obscuring the view of the garden from the dining room.
The room would be used for relaxation and listening to music. This was an opportunity to build a single space with large areas of glass and high ceilings to allow as much light in as possible without spoiling the character of the existing house. A continuous strip window in the roof throws a narrow beam of sunlight onto the end wall, which moves across the wall as time passes.   To maintain the view from the dining room, the extension was built 3 metres away from the house and an enclosed courtyard space was formed which effectively added an external room.
