Residential Extension, London SW14The brief was to create a family room at the back of a 3 storey Victorian house with maximum connection to the garden but without obscuring the view of the garden from the dining room. |
The room would be used for relaxation and listening to music. This was an opportunity to build a single space with large areas of glass and high ceilings to allow as much light in as possible without spoiling the character of the existing house. A continuous strip window in the roof throws a narrow beam of sunlight onto the end wall, which moves across the wall as time passes. | To maintain the view from the dining room, the extension was built 3 metres away from the house and an enclosed courtyard space was formed which effectively added an external room. |
