Roper LaneClient: London Borough of SouthwarkWeston Williamson wanted the community to have a sense of ownership to ensure the longevity of the project. Whilst Southwark has seen a great deal of regeneration, Bermondsey has suffered continued underdevelopment. |
Improvements to Roper Lane would reduce noise and pollution levels and benefit the people who live and work in the vicinity. A questionnaire was distributed to local residents and businesses to find out what was most appreciated in open spaces. People stated they wanted more trees, good lighting and a feeling of security at night. | The final design includes uplighting of different colours into a canopy of ornamental cherry trees. Overall the scheme is minimalist contrasting a select few high quality materials to achieve an uncluttered and uplifting urban space. |
