Areej Mowhob wins at BAME Apprenticeship Awards

We are delighted to announce that Areej Mowhob has been named Construction Services Apprentice 2021 at this year’s BAME Apprenticeship Awards!

Areej's passion and drive make her both an incredible apprentice and an amazing employee. We are so proud of her achievement, and look forward to supporting her in the next stages of her career.

The BAME Apprenticeship Awards in partnership with Pearson, showcases the outstanding work and achievement of apprentices from black and minority ethnic groups (BAME) and inspires BAME apprentices to reach their full potential. The Awards is organised by The BAME Apprentice Network who aim to close the diversity gap in apprenticeships by supporting apprentices and working with employers to make meaningful change.

We understand the many barriers that face people wishing to pursue careers in architecture. As a practice we are committed to challenging these and to create a diverse workforce that represents the communities we serve. In 2019 we joined the first group of architecture apprenticeships, and since then have supported staff through Level 7 apprenticeships, and this year we started our first Level 6 apprenticeship!

As well as supporting our own staff we look to find the next generation of architects and this year joined Open City’s Accelerate programme, mentoring 2 students. Accelerate is a pioneering design, education and mentoring programme providing access to a wider pool of young people and increasing diversity in the build environment professionals.
