Join Rob Naybour, Founding Partner, and Raffaela Rospo, Senior Associate from Weston Williamson + Partners to learn more about how the station has been designed as a bright and easy to navigate space, with design elements inspired by the historic Brunel and Wyatt mainline station.
The design of the Elizabeth line station at Paddington was inspired by the work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Matthew Digby Wyatt in the Grade I listed mainline station. The new station incorporates the DNA of their original grand design, with a build based on Brunel’s 10-foot grid pattern, and a design that makes the most of daylight; resulting in a contemporary and elegant addition to the mainline building.
Key to the Elizabeth line’s presence in the area is a new urban realm running the length of the mainline station in Departures Road. This urban realm features seating beneath a 120-metre-long glazed canopy, information screens, improved access to the mainline station through existing and new archways, and buses and taxis on Eastbourne Terrace.
