Major Milestones achieved at Forrestfield

The Forrestfield Airport Link (FAL) design team in Perth has achieved two important programme milestones this month, with the completion of the detailed design stage for both Belmont and Forrestfield stations

All three stations of the FAL network have now reached detail design stage and the team is moving onto final design for Airport Central Station. The team successfully implemented various areas of the buildings from the concept stage, with accurate materials research and attention to details. Belmont station required specific consideration of the surrounding urban context, with a series of interactions with local councils necessary to demonstrate that the development reflects the future high-density nature of the suburb.

At Forrestfield station, the rural character of the area has inspired the design approach and materials selection: the station will proudly showcase a locally supplied Kimberley stone cladding to the main façade. The variations in the colour of this stone and its unique texture will define the station precinct for years to come. At both terminals, the roof still plays a fundamental role in defining the space in and out the station, leading the passengers’ journey.

Overall, site-works are well underway, with most of the d-walls and main excavations completed at each location. The tunnel boring machine has also been installed and is now at work within the Forrestfield dive portal.
