The London Borough of Waltham Forest has appointed a design team to produce a Development Framework for Walthamstow Town Centre. The design will provide opportunities for significant numbers of new homes, commercial, community and social infrastructure alongside futureproofing and enhancing public transport infrastructure.
The newly-appointed team – Weston Williamson + Partners, Tonkin Liu and Nooma Studio – represent an exciting group of new and experienced designers who will collaborate on this masterplanning project. The successful bid was supported by Gerald Eve on viability, Stace on costs, sustainability consultancy Greengage who assisted with the social value commitments, and by Velocity and DSConsult on transport and daylight / sunlight respectively.
Louise Scannell, Associate Director from Weston Williamson + Partners, said: “We are delighted to be part of this exciting project, delivering a unique mix of commercial, residential and public realm spaces. The schemes will be designed collaboratively alongside Tonkin Liu and Nooma Studio and will provide the opportunities to support sustainable growth and high-quality development as well as placing the local community at the forefront of the future vision of Walthamstow Town Centre.”
Anna Liu, Director from Tonkin Liu, said: “We are inspired by the Council’s forward-thinking remit and the multi-disciplinary, unified team that Weston Williamson + Partners have pooled together. Perspectives of inhabitation, ecology, commerciality, will integrate in pursuit of place-making from first principles, in order to design a flourishing, enduring, future community rooted in the heart of Walthamstow.”
Ramsey Yassa, Director from Nooma Studio, said: “We’re delighted to be working with the wonderful people of Walthamstow to make a real difference to their area through place specific, culturally sensitive design.”
