The 15-minute city concept has been heralded as one of the outstanding architectural contributions to human development – does it deserve this praise? And how can we turn its ideas into reality? Those were the topics of the roundtable discussion we held with Place North West and invited guests, including local authorities, developers and engineers.
While the “15-minute city” term is relatively new, its ideals are not with industry leaders noting that New Islington in Manchester has put into practice many of the idea’s key principles of crafting a space where the needs of residents can be met locally. We spoke about what needs to be done to further the development of 15 minute cities as well we delving into how we can ensure these neighbourhoods do not just cater for the wealthy.
