WW+P has been appointed to provide architectural services for Network Rail’s Croydon Area Remodelling Scheme (CARS). Part of a multi-disciplinary team including lead Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group and Costain, the contract worth around £4m, will include a diverse range of design services across multiple elements of the rail infrastructure.
CARS is the principal component of the proposed Brighton Mainline Upgrade Programme to facilitate additional main line trains in response to existing and forecasted growth. In addition to the primary objectives of increased capacity and performance, the programme will aid the regeneration of the Croydon area by redeveloping East Croydon station, creating jobs in the local area and increasing housing development. Remodelling of the station is likely to include significant over site development.
Senior Partner Christian Bocci said: “We are delighted to be a part of the SNC/Atkins consortia that has won this prestigious project. The challenging mix of station design and over-station development, while keeping East Croydon station fully operational, will demand our best design expertise. It’s a great project which builds on our transport oriented development projects and will help improve the whole Brighton corridor access into London.”
