Crouch End Town Hall is a listed building scheduled to be updated as an arts venue with new apartments built to the rear in the car park. These plans also include the refurbishment of the public square in front. While this scheme provides a new public place there are further opportunities to address the high levels of traffic within the town centre that dissect the shopping streets from the Town Hall.
Our proposal addressed the issues of segregation caused by the prominence of vehicles around the Town Hall and centre of Crouch End through the removal of the pedestrian crossing, traffic lights, railings and signage. This area would be raised to form a shared surface where cars would travel at 10mph for the length of the main shopping area, and pedestrians and cycles would have priority over vehicles.
