In the Paddington film, Rob describes the challenge of taking Brunel’s original iconic station and creating something similarly inspired and timeless underground. He talks about the open void structure which enables pedestrians to view the ticket hall from street level and allows daylight to reach the platforms, as well as Spencer Finch’s stunning cloud canopy and how the new station is reconnecting with its surroundings.
The new station at Woolwich will be equally transformational, supporting regeneration and creating new transport links for local people. Will describes the innovative single span asymmetric beams in the new ticket hall which create a completely column free space for passengers coming in and out of the station, as well as how the area’s military history and heritage buildings are captured in the station’s construction materials and architectural detailing.
