Future Long Term Growth
Over the past decade Dublin Airport has experienced sustained year on year growth in passenger numbers and forecast demand has determined that a second runway and terminal infrastructure improvements will be required, and a strategic masterplan and road map for support the airport’s long term growth.
Our vision and masterplan for the future expansion of Dublin Airport takes a fresh look at publicly available information for the Airport’s expansion and future surface access connections overlaying them to understand the constraints and opportunities.
As the airport expands, it will be a catalyst for regional growth attracting inward investment. We explored the strategic importance of Dublin Airport, both to European aviation and to the Irish economy, and the economic drivers and opportunities for regional growth on surrounding land.
Applying principles of integrated transportation and urban planning, we developed plans for an aerotropolis, which will be a vibrant new city quarter with high quality public realm, creating opportunities for the Airport to invest in real estate and commercial development. The aerotropolis will generate new revenue streams to fund future growth.
The proposal includes a strategic reassessment of industrial and logistical activities to consolidate complementary functions and create dynamic clusters of industries that benefit from airport adjacency and unlock commercial opportunities for the airport.
The airport city will be transformed into a vibrant, walkable mixed use development with a unique sense of place and high quality public spaces, harnessing the airport’s access to global markets and its connectivity to the Greater Dublin region. A diverse mix of commercial offices, conference and exhibition facilities, hotels, serviced apartments, retail food and beverage, events and entertainment facilities will create the critical mass required to underpin an 18 hour economy.
