By repositioning the entrances and exits to the station, the passenger experience is dramatically improved and ridership increased, with opportunities to enjoy pedestrianised Martin Place and its iconic Macquarie Bank.
When we analysed the reference design for Martin Place Station, we were surprised to find that all passengers entered and exited via congested Castleraugh Street and Elizabeth Street. ‘The customer is at the centre of all that we do’ is the mantra/motto of Transport for New South Wales and with this front of mind, we looked at ways to improve the customer experience as much as possible.
We reworked the station to position the entrances and exits on the fantastic pedestrianised space of Martin Place, creating a real sense of arrival for passengers. Virtual Reality techniques allowed us to test alternative solutions pre construction to ensure the best possible customer experience and maximum ridership numbers.
